Carmel – It's All In The Game
It's All In The Game captures British singer Carmel McCourt and her band Carmel at an interesting point in their career, combining the sophisticated studio sound of the late 1980s with the rawer character of the group as a live act.
The title track, “It's All In The Game,” was produced by Mike Thorne, mixed by Julian Mendelsohn and recorded by Nick Froome. It was taken from the forthcoming album Everybody's Got A Little... Soul, placing this maxi-single firmly within Carmel's late-1980s blend of soul, jazz, blues and sophisticated pop.
What makes this 12" particularly interesting is the B-side. Rather than simply offering alternative studio versions, it contains “More, More, More” and “Tracks Of My Tears,” both recorded live at Ronnie Scott's on 28 June 1987. The famous London jazz club is an especially appropriate setting for Carmel's music, giving the release another dimension beyond the studio recording on Side One.
The result is a compact but appealing snapshot of Carmel in two settings: the carefully produced title track on one side and the immediacy of a live performance on the other.
Released by Metronome as catalogue number 886 180-1, this is the 100 BPM Maxi Single edition.
