Pixies – Head Carrier
 
Released in 2016, Head Carrier finds Pixies reconnecting with the sharp contrasts that made their music so distinctive: melodic hooks collide with abrasive guitars, quiet passages erupt into sudden bursts of noise, and Black Francis moves effortlessly between restrained singing and his characteristic howl.
 
Recorded at London’s RAK Studios with producer Tom Dalgety, the album was the first to feature Paz Lenchantin as a permanent member of the band. Her bass playing and vocals add a fresh dimension to the familiar chemistry between Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering. Lenchantin also takes the lead vocal on “All I Think About Now,” a melodic and affectionate tribute to former bassist Kim Deal.
 
Highlights include the driving “Classic Masher,” the explosive “Baal’s Back,” “Tenement Song,” “Um Chagga Lagga” and the atmospheric closing track “All the Saints.” The result is a concise and confident alternative-rock album that combines the angular energy of classic Pixies with the sound of a renewed line-up.
 
This 180-gram pressing is housed in a gatefold sleeve featuring art direction and design by longtime Pixies collaborator Vaughan Oliver. Both the record and sleeve are graded Mint, making this an exceptional copy for listening or collecting.
