One of the more wonderfully eccentric releases in The Flaming Lips’ catalogue – which is saying something.
Onboard The International Space Station Concert For Peace takes material from the band’s 2017 album Oczy Mlody and reimagines it as a fictional live performance aboard the International Space Station. The result is a psychedelic, atmospheric and deliberately otherworldly trip through the Flaming Lips universe.
The music moves between dreamy electronics, experimental rock, strange textures and huge psychedelic soundscapes, with Wayne Coyne and company creating something that feels more like a complete sonic experience than a conventional live album. The closing track, “We A Famly,” features additional vocals from Miley Cyrus, who collaborated with the band several times during this period.
This European edition was released exclusively for Record Store Day on 22 April 2017 by Bella Union / Lovely Sorts of Death Records and pressed on beautiful red vinyl. The artwork was created by Wayne Coyne, with additional design by longtime Flaming Lips collaborator George Salisbury.
Produced and recorded by The Flaming Lips together with legendary producer Dave Fridmann, whose work has been central to the band’s distinctive sound for decades.
