Released in 2019, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 captures Foals at one of the most ambitious points in their career. Rather than simply repeating the guitar-driven indie rock that established the Oxford band, Foals broadened their sound with synthesizers, electronic textures, atmospheric production and increasingly expansive songwriting.
The album combines the band's characteristic rhythmic precision with a darker and more reflective atmosphere. Urgent guitars and dance-influenced grooves remain central to the music, but they are surrounded by layers of keyboards and electronics that give the record a cinematic, sometimes almost futuristic quality.
Lyrically, Part 1 reflects a world shaped by uncertainty, environmental anxiety, political tension and rapid technological change. Yet the album never becomes weighed down by its themes. Foals balance the darker material with some of their most immediate and energetic music.
Among the album's standout moments is “Exits,” a sprawling and atmospheric track that perfectly captures the record's combination of tension and melody. “In Degrees” pushes further toward the dancefloor with pulsing electronics and an infectious rhythm, while “On the Luna” combines bright melodies with the band's unmistakable rhythmic guitar work. The closing “I'm Done With The World (& It's Done With Me)” brings the album to a much more intimate and contemplative conclusion.
The title is significant too. Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost was conceived as a two-part project, with Part 1 and Part 2 both released in 2019. Rather than functioning simply as two collections of songs, they reveal different sides of Foals' music, making the pair particularly interesting for listeners and collectors who want to explore this period of the band's development in full.
This vinyl edition offers an excellent way to experience Part 1 as the deliberately sequenced album it was intended to be — moving from the brief opening atmosphere of “Moonlight” through the increasingly expansive middle section and into its subdued finale.
The vinyl is graded Near Mint (NM), showing very little evidence of previous handling. The sleeve is graded Mint (M)and is exceptionally well preserved.
