Anne-Lie Rydé – Anne-Lie Rydé

Anne-Lie Rydé is a Swedish singer known for combining a strong rock attitude with melodic pop and distinctly Scandinavian songwriting. After several years with the Gothenburg band Extra, she returned to Stockholm and launched her solo career in 1983 with this self-titled debut album. The release became her breakthrough and introduced the expressive voice, theatrical delivery and bold visual identity that would define much of her career. (Wikipedia)

Produced by Dan Sundquist and recorded at EMI Studios in Stockholm, the album captures the colourful sound of early-1980s Swedish pop-rock. Energetic guitars, keyboards and prominent rhythms are balanced by atmospheric ballads and dramatic arrangements, while Rydé moves confidently between vulnerability, defiance and playful swagger.

One of the album’s highlights is “Segla på ett moln,” written by Per Gessle, which became Anne-Lie Rydé’s first major solo hit. The record also includes songs such as “En tuff brud,” “Ensamt barn,” “Jag vägrar,” “Du kysste mig,” “Alltid blå,” “Ögon ser mig,” “Cirkulerar” and “Kungar.” Together, the nine tracks present an artist already possessing a distinctive personality and a clear sense of style. The dramatic cover photography, leather, leopard-print details and punk-inspired styling perfectly complement the music. Although the album is melodic and accessible, its presentation has a darker and more rebellious edge than conventional Swedish pop of the period.

Released in Sweden by EMI in 1983, this original stereo LP carries catalogue number 1361171. It is an appealing piece of Swedish pop-rock history and a strong choice for collectors of Scandinavian music, female rock vocalists and distinctive 1980s vinyl. (discogs.com)
