You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby is the album that turned Fatboy Slim into one of the defining names of the late-1990s electronic music explosion. Originally released in 1998, Norman Cook’s second album under the Fatboy Slim name brought the energy of club culture into the mainstream without losing the irreverence, huge beats and inventive sampling that made his productions immediately recognisable.
The album contains some of Fatboy Slim’s most celebrated recordings, including “The Rockafeller Skank,” “Praise You,” “Right Here, Right Now” and “Gangster Trippin.” Together they helped define the big beat sound of the era, combining breakbeats, funk, rock, hip-hop and electronic production into music equally at home in clubs, at festivals and on the radio.
More than two decades later, You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby remains a snapshot of a particular moment in electronic music, when Fatboy Slim and his contemporaries helped take dance music from underground club culture to enormous international audiences.
