Frank Turner – No Man’s Land is offered here as the European 2019 black-vinyl edition, released by Polydor and Xtra Mile Recordings under catalogue number 7783204 (EAN 0602577832048). This heavyweight LP is housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes the illustrated inner sleeve and four-page lyric booklet.
Turner’s eighth studio album is built around the lives of women whose stories have often been overlooked or reduced to footnotes. Rather than following a conventional autobiographical singer-songwriter arc, the record moves through historical portraits, cultural memory and personal history. Its subjects range from gospel and electric-guitar pioneer Sister Rosetta Tharpe to William Blake’s wife Catherine, jazz patron Nica Rothschild, Byzantine hymnographer Kassiani and Turner’s own mother, Rosemary Jane.
Produced by Catherine Marks and recorded with a predominantly female cast of musicians, the album broadens Turner’s folk-punk foundation with piano, strings, choir, brass and carefully shaped studio arrangements. “Sister Rosetta” carries the album’s most immediate rock momentum, while “I Believed You, William Blake,” “The Lioness” and “Rosemary Jane” show its quieter, more reflective side. The sequencing gives the thirteen individual narratives the coherence of a single song cycle.
This is the standard European black-vinyl pressing, not one of the blue or white coloured variants. The labels and runout information identify the 2019 GZ Media pressing, mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The gatefold artwork, printed inner sleeve and lyric booklet extend the album’s documentary character and make the physical edition especially well suited to focused, front-to-back listening.
The media is graded Near Mint, with very little evidence of previous handling. The sleeve is graded Mint.
