Gary U.S. Bonds – On The Line
Released in 1982, On The Line continued Gary U.S. Bonds’ remarkable early-1980s comeback and marked the second of his two major collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and members of the E Street Band. Produced by Springsteen and Miami Steve Van Zandt, the album combines Bonds’ rhythm-and-blues roots with the energetic, full-bodied rock sound associated with the E Street musicians.
Bruce Springsteen wrote seven of the album’s eleven songs, including “Hold On (To What You Got)”, “Out Of Work”, “Club Soul City”, “Love’s On The Line”, “Rendez-Vous”, “Angelyne” and “All I Need”. “Out Of Work” became the album’s best-known single and reached the American Top 40.
The supporting musicians include Roy Bittan, Max Weinberg, Garry Tallent, Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons, giving the recording a strong connection to Springsteen’s classic early-1980s sound. Clemons’ saxophone work, Bonds’ forceful vocals and Van Zandt’s guitar-led arrangements create a lively blend of rock, soul and rhythm and blues.
This is the original European 1982 vinyl edition issued by EMI America under catalogue number 1A 064-400099. It was manufactured by EMI, printed in Holland and made in the EEC.
The vinyl is graded Near Mint, showing very little evidence of previous handling. The sleeve is graded Very Good Plus and remains well preserved with only minor signs of use.
