Released in 1973 on Bell Records, the album arrived after the group had established themselves as one of the most distinctive American vocal acts of their generation. The interplay between Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis Jr., Florence LaRue, Lamonte McLemore and Ron Townson remained central to their sound: five individual voices brought together in carefully constructed harmonies that could move effortlessly between pop and soul.
The title track, “Living Together, Growing Together,” was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, connecting the album with one of the great songwriting partnerships of the era. The record also includes interpretations of “Day by Day”and Osibisa’s “Woyaya,” demonstrating the breadth of material The 5th Dimension were comfortable making their own.
