Released in 1966, Strangers In The Night captures Frank Sinatra at the height of his mid-sixties resurgence. Blending sophisticated traditional pop, vocal jazz and elegant orchestral arrangements, the album places Sinatra’s unmistakable voice at the centre of a polished and highly atmospheric production.
 
The internationally successful title track became one of Sinatra’s signature recordings, reaching number one on both sides of the Atlantic and earning multiple Grammy Awards. Its romantic, late-night atmosphere is complemented by another enduring Sinatra classic, “Summer Wind”, alongside beautifully interpreted standards such as “All or Nothing at All”, “Call Me”, “You’re Driving Me Crazy!” and “My Baby Just Cares for Me”.
 
Most of the album was arranged and conducted by Sinatra’s celebrated longtime collaborator Nelson Riddle, whose refined orchestration provides the perfect setting for Sinatra’s relaxed phrasing, impeccable timing and effortless vocal authority. The title track features a distinctive arrangement by Ernie Freeman and closes with Sinatra’s famous improvised “doo-be-doo-be-doo” vocal refrain.
Strangers In The Night is an essential addition to any collection of classic vocal jazz, traditional pop or Frank Sinatra recordings.
 
It is also an excellent introduction to Sinatra’s Reprise Records period, combining timeless standards with the more contemporary sound of the mid-1960s.
